Jane Austen (1775-1816)


Who was she?

Jane Austen was an English novelist and she wrote romantic books. She lived between 1775 and 1816. She died young, at 41 years old. Her most well-known books were:
  • Sense and Sensibility (1811)
  • Pride and Prejudice (1813)
  • Mansfield Park (1814)  
  • Emma (1816) 
Between 1811 and 1816, with these 4 romantic books, she achieved success as a published writer. Jane Austen was one of the most widely read writers in English literature. 
 
                           
Pride and prejudice
Pride and prejudice is a novel by Jane Austen, which presents a love story between Elizabeth and Darcy, parts of different social groups.
Elizabeth Bennet, from "Pride and Prejudice", was the most famously character of Jane Austen. She is the second daughter in the Bennet family and the most intelligent. Elizabeth is the protagonist in "Pride and Prejudice" and one of the most well-known female characters in the English literature. Her admirable qualities are numerous - she is lovely, clever and in a novel defined by dialogue, she converses as brilliantly as anyone.
"Pride and Prejudice" is esentially the story of how she (and her true love, Darcy) overcome all obstacles - including their own personal failings and her initial prejudice against him - to find romantic happiness.

Her genre

Jane Austen's literary genre was romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry. Her realism and biting social commentary cementing her historical importance among scholars and critics.
